The course elements interface now has seven columns with nine items each, as opposed to the Wii U version, which has five columns with twelve items each.When placing an object down in the course editor, instead of a distorted voice saying the name of the object, there is simply a small sound that sounds like two sticks tapping each other.Instead, the player is greeted with an introductory speech from Yamamura and Mary O. Upon starting the game for the first time, the player no longer needs to play though an unfinished course and a guided tutorial before being able to access the Main Menu.Different players can collaborate on courses together via Local Play.Checkpoint Flags, Skewers, and Keys are now standalone course elements.In addition, there are different course elements unlocked from the start. Course Elements are unlocked through the Super Mario Challenge, rather than having to wait for a set amount of time.The following features have been added to, or changed in the game.The game is able to progress past the start menu while booting for the first time, but most times after a restart, it will stop working and will hang on the screen saying ‘Accessing SD Card’ where Yamamura won’t be able to finish the last. The letters on the title screen can no longer be tapped due to them being on the top screen. Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS will run perfectly in Citra under certain conditions.It is no longer possible to play levels featuring a Mystery Mushroom or Big Mushroom.
